Why Your Shower Might Be the Best 10 Minutes of Your Day
Share
You don't always need a vacation. Sometimes you just need ten uninterrupted minutes.
Think about how many moments of your day belong to someone or something else.
Emails.
Messages.
Work.
Family.
Notifications.
Things you need to remember.
Things you haven't done yet.
And then you close the bathroom door.
For a few minutes, the outside world gets quieter.
That's what makes the shower so interesting.
It's something most of us already do, yet it may also be one of the easiest places to create a small moment that's completely your own.
The Shower Creates a Natural Pause
There's something different about stepping beneath running water.
You can't answer an email.
You probably aren't scrolling Instagram.
Nobody expects you to accomplish anything while you're shampooing your hair. 😂
For a few minutes, you're simply there.
And instead of treating those minutes as another task to complete as quickly as possible, you can choose to notice them.
Your Senses Bring You Into the Moment
Warm water against your skin.
The sound of the shower.
Steam in the air.
The texture of lather between your hands.
An aroma you love.
These are simple sensory details, but noticing them gives your attention somewhere to go other than your endless mental to-do list.
You don't need to call it meditation.
You don't need to “clear your mind.”
Just notice what's happening right now.
Create a Transition Between One Part of Your Day and Another
Your shower can also become a small dividing line.
Morning: I'm beginning.
After work: That part of my day is finished.
Before bed: I can let today go.
The water hasn't magically changed your circumstances.
But you've intentionally marked a transition.
That's where ritual begins.
Try This Tonight
Before your next shower:
Leave your phone outside.
Turn on the water.
Choose a soap based simply on the aroma or experience you're craving.
Step in.
And before doing anything else, take one slow breath.
That's it.
You don't need a 12-step wellness routine.
For the next few minutes, don't solve tomorrow.
Don't replay yesterday.
Just shower.
Feel the water.
Notice the aroma.
Let yourself be where your body already is.
That's the Heart of Bodhi
This simple idea became one of the foundations of Bodhi Tree Tribe.
We don't believe self-care always needs to mean adding something else to your schedule.
Sometimes it's about experiencing something you're already doing differently.
Your shower was already there.
The water was already running.
Those ten minutes already existed.
Maybe they were never “just a shower.”
Maybe they were an opportunity to come back to yourself.
Close the door. Put down the phone. Let tomorrow wait.
Disconnect to reconnect.
